In what will most likely be one of the most traumatic experiences of her life, a 12-year-old girl shoots an intruder in a home invasion in an act of self-defense.
According to News on 6, a 12-year-old girl shoots an intruder in Oklahoma after a man tried to break into her family’s home while she was inside. In her statement to the police, the young girl said that the intruder rang the doorbell at the front of the house, then went around to the back where he kicked down the back door.
The young girl immediately called her mother, Debra St. Clair, who told her to grab the family gun, hide in the closet and call the emergency line 911. Meanwhile, Mrs. St. Clair tried to get home as fast as possible to make sure her daughter was okay.
However, upon Mrs. St. Clair’s arrival, she saw that police were already at the scene. She told reporters, “I drove home at a really fast pace to try to get to her, and when I got here the police were already here. And they had the suspect.”
Before the intruders capture, St. Clair’s daughter had to make the life altering decision of shooting down the man as he made his way into the room she was hiding him. Right when he was about to open the closet doors, she fired through it and shot him .
Although the young girl got a clear shot through the man now identified as 32-year-old Stacey Jones, the wound was not lethal as cop apprehended him close to the scene of the crime as he was trying to flea. Jones was then taken to a Texas hospital by helicopter, where he was released on Thursday and is now residing in Bryan County Jail.
