Caroline Berg Eriksen has caused another uproar in the internet community as the wife of soccer player Lars-Kristian Eriksen posts a postbaby selfie for the world to see.
Eriksen, who is a fitness and health guru, posted a picture of herself on Instagram for her 245,000 followers wearing nothing but her bra and panties just four days after giving birth.
Along with the photo, Erisken wrote:
“I feel so empty…4 days after birth.”
The posting had an immediate backlash amongst feminists and women who feel that Eriksen’s photo holds an unideal standard that women are pressured to follow. Australian blogger Rebecca Sparrow wrote:
“This in an act of war against women. Why is it the mother’s “post baby body” the first thing we want to talk about when a celebrity has a baby?”
Many women who were upset over comments and photos made by Caroline Berg Eriksen state that these pressures from celebrities to lose weight fast have become a ridiculous standard to follow.
Looking at the other side of the coin, the new mom has also received positive responses of her tight figure. One supporter commented on the photo writing:
“U rock girl! I have three kids and I’m a blimp.”
Perhaps the photos would not be seen as controversial had it not been for “Fit Mom” Maria Kang complaining about plus-sized women on Facebook. In that instance, the mother of three was banned from the social media site after she stated her annoyance at a plus-sized women Facebook fan page. After her banning period was over, Kang went on to write:
“Why can a post-baby celebrity pose proudly in a bikini on a magazine (and be applauded) and an everyday working mom (me) do the same without hitting nerves?”
It seems as though there is an ongoing battle between women when it comes to the display of their bodies.
