The gunman opened fire on the third floor of the building upon entering the neurology office, according to a spokesperson for the Reno Police.  Authorities say, the shooter died of a self imposed gunshot wound and has yet to be identified.

The Center for Advanced Medicine is not actually part of the hospital, but a leased building in the corner of the medical centers campus. The area remained on lockdown for the rest of the afternoon, until police who were doing a room by room search of each building on the campus officially cleared the area.

University of Nevada police were first to alert the area of a gunman on the loose. The report went out via Twitter, warning students and staff to stay where they were and to find cover. Jan Tors a spokesperson for the university, released a statement reporting that no faculty or students were harmed in the shooting.

The medical center is the only Children’s Hospital in the Reno area, as well as being the only Level II trauma center in the region and is host to the largest number of clinical research trials in the region.
