He apparently knew the little girl and her family quite well. When police began to suspect him of the murder, they knocked at his door. Metsker remained inside his trailer home, but ignored the police’s knocks. After some time, a family member of Metsker’s came by with a key and let the police in to check on Metsker. He was found inside, and was just choosing to ignore the police. In addition to suspicions of murder, the police were also hoping to perform a welfare check on the young man after they suspected his involvement, in order to make sure that he did not harm himself too.
Jerrod Metsker is currently being charged with the aggravated murder or Reann Murphy. The fact that he knew the girl was missing before the family did led a lot of suspicion towards him in the very beginning of this investigation. His later behavior and avoidance of police helped to cement the police’s reasonable doubt that he was somehow involved in the murder of the girl.
A trial will be underway soon to hear the evidence in the case, and bring Reann Murphy’s killer to justice. Right now Metsker appears to be the only suspect in police custody regarding this case.
