Another classic foot in mouth moment occurred, only when you are an internationally renowned celebrity the consequences are a little more grave. One of the personalities on the hit A&E show Duck Dynasty found themselves in hot water following a shocking magazine interview in which he condemned gays as sinners. Duck Dynasty start Phil Robertson lit the fire.
The comment, made by Phil Robertson, got him kicked off the show indefinitely. Phil made some controversial comments in January’s issue of GQ, where he compared homosexuality to bestiality and gays to adulterers and swindlers. The network then put hi on an “indefinite hiatus”.
“His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community,” A&E said in a statement.
Glaad was next to slam Robertson, saying in a statement, “Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe.”
The Robertson family, which includes Phil’s brother, Si, and sons, Willie, Jase and Jep, has been basking in the spotlight since the unlikely success of the A&E series that centers around their duck call business.
Though much of the appeal of the show — which drew a network record of 11.8 million viewers for its fourth season premiere — surrounds their goofy antics, the Robertsons have been up front about using their fame as a soapbox for their religious beliefs and political conservatism per nydailynews.com.
“We’re Bible-thumpers who just happened to end up on television,” Phil Robertson told GQ.
