Many are asking if Red Lobster closing rumors are true as word has been spreading that the seafood restaurant is no longer in business because of Obamacare.
Despite internet rumors that Red Lobster is closing its doors for good, Darden, the company that owns the restaurant chain, has officially stated that Red Lobster is open for business. Darden has come out with an official statement saying that there are no future plans to close the Red Lobster.
Rumors of the restaurant’s closure have been surfacing since Christmas throughout social media. The story became mainstream when sites such as Yahoo began reporting of Red Lobster’s closure.
While Darden may not be closing Red Lobster, the company did state that it would be selling off its seafood chain to a separate company. Spokesman Rich Jeffers told reporters,
“We never said we were closing our restaurants…You had a couple outlets where clearly folks weren’t practicing good journalism, and no one called to verify if what they read in LA Weekly was accurate.”
LA Weekly has not commented on the misreporting, however, they did update the piece that Jeffers was referring to and said that no restaurants were in danger of closing.
