Phoenix Dad Kills Son with Ax
Gary Sherrill, 51, has been charged in the death of his 13-year-old-son, whose body was discovered with multiple stab wounds in his father’s apartment. He is being charged with first-degree murder.
Sherrill, of Phoenix, said he believed his son was a man-eating demon, which prompted him to take an axe to the boy’s body murdering him on New Year’s Eve according police.
Sherrill allegedly confessed to the heinous crime, adding that he feared the boy would devour him, reported by KNXV-TV.
The suspect picked up the teen from his ex-wife’s home Monday but failed to bring him back by Tuesday afternoon, which prompted his former spouse to alert the authorities.
According to Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos, police were called to an apartment near 12th street and Bethany Home Road around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The mother and father are divorced, Martos said.
The mother told police that Sherrill had failed to return their child and had been attempting to reach out to both her son and her ex-husband.
Officers made their way to Sherrill’s apartment where the man reportedly told them his son was not home. He eventually let the police in where they discovered the terrible tragedy.
Martos stated that the victim had stab wounds and multiple lacerations to several parts of his body. When homicide detectives arrived to the scene, Sherrill confessed to killing his son with an ax and told officials he was scared of his son per ABC 15.
Sherrill was booked into jail on the charge of first-degree murder.
