Michael Davis’s 17-year-old daughter was shot and killed in a Denver high school, says that he forgives his daughters shooter and is asking others to show his same kindness. He and his wife have forgiven their daughter Claire’s killer, saying the killer was blinded by anger and didn’t understand the consequences of his actions.
Karl Pierson shot Claire Davis at Arapahoe County High School on Dec. 13. The girl passed away eight days later at a local hospital. Michael Davis and his wife issued a statement saying, “My wife and I forgive Karl Pierson for what he did,” Davis said. “We would ask all of you here and all of you watching to forgive Karl Pierson. He didn’t know what he was doing.”
“Father Forgives His Daughters Shooter”
Police investigators determined that 18-year-old Pierson was angry with a teacher for disciplining him and Claire was a innocent bystander who randomly got shot. Pierson took his own life after the shooting.
Davis said his daughter’s last words were trying to understand why Pierson had done this saying, “Oh my gosh, Karl, what are you doing?” Apparently Pierson was a troubled kid with some other emotional issues.
Pierson came into the high school armed 12-gauge shotgun and over 100 shotgun shells, a machete, and three homemade firebombs. Deputy Sheriff James Englert who is normally stationed at the school, quickly arrived on the scene and placed the school in a state of lockdown. Englert ran towards Pierson after the initial shooting to prevent more bloodshed and thats when Pierson shot himself.
