Jason Mark Carter Found In Tennessee After Fleeing SC Mental Hospital

Jason Mark Carter fled a mental hospital in South Carolina to escape from confinement, as he was linked to a double murder by authorities. He stands accused of killing his own mother and step-father, but a judge in South Carolina deemed him unfit for trial. He was entered into the Craft Farrow State Hospital for mental treatment, where he had escaped on Thursday after a few years of treatment.

Jason Mark CarterAfter stealing a vehicle near the hospital and fleeing the state, he was finally caught in a hotel room in Williamson County Tennessee. Officers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol were tipped off to the location of the suspect, after authorities issued an inter-state manhunt on Thursday.

Back in 2006, it is suspected that  Carter killed his mother and step-father though he has never stood trial due to his mental condition. There have not been other suspects tried for the crime, due to overwhelming evidence suggesting that Carter acted alone when he presumably did it. Because of medications that Carter was taking around the time of the murders, he claims that he had no memory of killing his parents. When authorities searched the home for his mother and step-father, he was occupying the home presumably unaware of his parent’s condition. His defense in court was based around the fact that his mental condition was being treated with medication that had side-effects which could cause behavior concurrent with the events that took place in the murder of his parents.

There have been no announcements whether these recent acts this week will change the court’s decision not to prosecute Carter for the crimes. He may however need to be placed in a higher security facility to await any further treatment.
