Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie split after three years of marriage per their announcement made Friday. The couple has said they are separating in what has been termed as an amicable, even loving, decision.
Their courtship first began back in 2007, with their wedding on Aug. 14, 2010, and their first child born March 20, 2012. The couple remain committed to co-parenting their 21-month-old son, Luca Cruz, Duff’s rep tells People magazine.
“Mike and I are sitting here,” Duff tweeted around 4 p.m., “we are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we’re getting thru it together.”
Hilary’s mom, Susan Duff, tells TMZ, the couple has already decided on joint custody of Luca. Susan says she loves Mike but sees the breakup this way, “They’re better friends than a married couple.”
The couple seemed happy as can be recently, going to the park and spending a dressy New Year’s Eve together, although reports surfaced back in September that they were going through a difficult time. Star magazine reported that Duff and Comrie were on the verge of breaking up and attending couples therapy to attempt to work it out.
“She felt like Mike forgot how to treat her special,” a source told the tabloid.
Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie split may not come too surprisingly to her Instagram followers. As of late, most pictures do not include Comrie but instead show Duff spending time with her friends.
A source adds that there was no drama involved, the two apparently just grew apart per Huffington Post.
“There was no major incident -– no big event between the two of them,” a source told People. “They really did drift apart. They have put effort and thought into this decision for a long time. They tried couples therapy, but in the end, they realized at this time, they work better as friends. And they really are great friends.”
