Peter Parker, a.k.a Spider-Man will of course be returning to the big screen this summer in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but it has been over a year since fans have seen Parker grace the page of a comic book.
Well, the wait will be over shortly. Marvel recently announced that writer Dan Slott will be re-booting Amazing Spider-Man as part of the Marvel NOW! series, with issue #1 due out in April. Amazing Spider-man ended it’s run with issue #700 in December 2012, which resulted in Doctor Otto Octavius a.k.a Doc Oc taking over Parker’s body and life for the past year in the series Superior Spider-Man.
“This was part of the pitch of SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN. Walking people through it, I told them, “And then we reach this point where people begin wondering, ‘How are they going to bring him back?'” That was part of the appeal, part of the fun of the mystery, everyone wondering, ‘How are they going to do this?'” said writer Dan Slott in a recent Q & A with Marvel.
It is very clear that Marvel, as it seems they always do, had a long term plan in mind when they “killed” off the character. Fan reaction has been mixed so far with some fans clearly delighted to have the her0 back while others have criticized Marvel for not sticking to the change.
In any case, Parker will be returning, but according to Slott, it won’t be without its consequences.
“I think we’re going to surprise a lot of people with how Peter’s going to come back, what’s going to happen to Ock, and what kind of world Peter Parker finds when he [returns],” Slott said.
Be sure to check out Amazing Spider-Man #1 this April.
