Darren Sharper was arrested on Friday for allegations of rape according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The former NFL star was arrested Friday and released on a $200,000 bail around midnight. Sharper, who was a star defensive back for Green Bay, Minnesota and New Orleans, will face his first court appearance on February 14.
While not disclosing who is alleging the former NFL star of rape, LAPD told reporters that an investigation is currently underway that involves Sharper and two sexual assaults. The rapes occurred back in October and in early January in West L.A. A third sexual assault charge is also pending on Darren Sharper that was filed back in September.
Sharper, who retired from the NFL in 2010, has made no public comments about the charges or the allegations of rape. Meanwhile, the NFL Network has issued a statement:
“Darren has been suspended without pay until further notice, effective immediately.”
Sharper, 38, has been working as an analyst for the network since his retirement.
Due to the fact that the investigation is still ongoing at this time, LAPD has not issued any more information regarding the rape charges. Names of those involved have not been released.
