William Dresser, 88-years-old, shot his wife in the chest on Sunday at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, in Nevada. Police arrested the man and he has been put under suicide watch by the jailers.
Dresser’s wife was being treated on the third-floor of the Nevada hospital before he shot her. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said, the elderly man used small caliber hand gun to shoot his wife and that no one else was hurt during the shooting. She has been transferred to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with life threatening injuries. No details of why she was admitted to the hospital have been released.
Dresser was arrested for attempted murder by Carson City police and he is being held in jail under suicide watch, with bail set at $225,000.
Sheriff Furlong reported, that Dresser had recently purchased the gun, before shooting his wife in her hospital room. Hospital security officers detained him, until Carson City deputies arrived on the scene. The hospital was placed in state of lockdown for two hours after the shooting. The hospital issued statement saying, the shooting was a “targeted situation.”
Dresser has no other known criminal history in the Carson City area. This shooting comes just a month after a gunman opened fire in medical center building next to a Reno hospital, before taking his own life.
