Investigators stated that they have apprehended the shooter at the Purdue University shooting. The gunman has reportedly left one dead according to police.
One person has been announced dead as police have the gunman in custody. The police have not publicly identified the shooter. Witnesses said that they saw a young white male being escorted away by police with his hands behind his back.
University Police Chief John Cox told reporters that the gunman walked into the EE (Electrical Engineering) Department and walked in with the intention of murder. However, the gunman walked out and gave himself up to police after the shooting.
The name of the victim has not been released by police as the investigation is currently ongoing. However, the school news paper, Purdue Exponent, reported that the man was a teaching assistant.
Although the entire campus was initially locked-down due to the shooting, regular school function has resumed except for the EE building. During the shooting, Purdue University used its official Twitter account to update faculty and students on the situation:
