The newly updated Dark Sky weather app now features interactive weather maps, allowing users to see local and global weather conditions in real time. The biggest update for the app is that it focuses on giving hyperlocal weather predictions. The previous version of the app only offered detailed 12-hour weather forecasts, but the updated version offers in-depth weather reports for the next 24 hours, along with a detailed report for the seven-day forecast. Adam Grossman one of the creators for the Dark Sky weather, wrote in a blog post:
In studying how people use weather apps (ours and others), it’s become clear that the next 24 hours is hugely important,”said Grossman. “So much so that we’ve devoted an entire screen to a full breakdown of what’s going to happen in the next day. Completely rewritten from scratch, it sets aside the limitations of the web to become the weather app we’ve always wanted — and always wanted to build,”
Dark Sky is powered by a independent weather service, who unveiled the new freshly updated iOS app on Monday. The app was first released in 2012, and is a Kickstarter funded weather app. The app gained popularity for being able to give users exceptionally accurate short term weather predictions with a hyperlocal focus. The iOS app is available for purchase in the App Store for $3.99.
