Texas woman murdered her fiance’s toddler and lied about to it police. Melinda Lynn Muniz, a 25-year-old woman from Plano, Texas is being charged with capital murder for suffocating her fiance’s toddler.
Police found 2-year-old Grace Lillian Ford unconscious in her crib with duct tape covering her mouth. Muniz was found in another room of the apartment with her pants pulled down and her mouth taped shut; she told investigators that she had been sexually assaulted by an unidentified male, but investigators say her story had holes in it and was inconsistent. Investigators uncovered later that Muniz had staged the break-in to deflect suspicion.
What was reported to us that had taken place, there was not any way that could have happened,” Plano police spokesman David Tilley said.
Young Grace’s death was ruled a homicide by Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office. In the affidavit Muniz told police that she and the girls father were in the process of breaking up. Muniz was also caught on video at nearby dollar store with Grace purchasing duct tape, zip ties, kitchen shears, and cotton swabs a few hours before police were called to the apartment.
She took the child with her to purchase the items that she was going to use during the commission of the crime,” Tilley said. “Clearly premeditated.”
Grace’s family issued a statement saying, “God will make sure justice is served to the fullest. What this monster did is as evil as it can get. There is no excuse.” Her grandfather had called Child Protective Services two days earlier, but they did not see any signs of child abuse at the time.
Muniz is being held on $1 million dollar bond at Plano City Jail.
