Dylan Farrow, the adopted daughter of legendary director Woody Allen, writes an open letter alleging sexual abuse from her father as a child.
Depicting a history of sexual abuse, Dylan Farrow wrote about an incident in which Woody Allen sexually assaulted her at 7-years-old. In her New York Times Blog post, Farrow writes:
“When I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother’s electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me. He talked to me while he did it, whispering that I was a good girl, that this was our secret, promising that we’d go to Paris and I’d be a star in his movies.”
Farrow goes on to recount the trials and tribulations of her upbringing with Woody Allen as her father. In her letter, Farrow states that the famous director would regularly seek her out and perform acts of a sexual nature. The 28-year-old then asked famed celebrities what they thought about the ordeal as she wrote:
“What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett? Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone? Or you, Scarlett Johansson? You knew me when I was a little girl, Diane Keaton. Have you forgotten me?”
The accusations that Woody Allen had sexually abused his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow stem from 1993 after Allen and then girlfriend Mia Farrow separated. During that time, the media speculated about the abuse. However, Allen was never criminally charged for sexual abuse of a minor and has firmly denied any wrongdoing since. Farrow, who is publicly speaking for the first time about the incident, wrote about her abuse in order to help others speak openly and honestly about it. Moreover, the now happily married wife wanted to bring attention to the shortcomings of Hollywood society and its praise over someone who has committed a heinous crime.
At the end of her letter, Dylan Farrow simply writes:
“Now, what’s your favorite Woody Allen movie?”
