New York Police have reported that they discovered the lifeless body of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. He had apparently died of a drug overdose in his own apartment in New York. When police arrived at the scene there was nothing that could be done to save the Academy Award-winning actor.
Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead In New York Apartment
A frantic 9-1-1 call to police from one of his friends lead them to the apartment where they found the dead actor with a hypodermic needle still stuck in his arm. Hoffman had been fighting his drug addiction for a while before this tragic event. Last May he was treated for his heroin addiction, which may have been what ultimately claimed his life. Over the years there have been other famous actors that battled the very same addictions, which their careers help them support and their stardom pushes them into these temptations by association.
Some other actors who battle similar addictions may choose to abuse over-the-counter substances, but there are still many who fight an addiction to the same kind of street drugs that plague our society. Heroin is not a very forgiving drug, and other musicians and celebrities who have tried to come clean from the substance have ended their lives with the very same fate as Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Investigation into what actually caused his death will still need to be undertaken, though from the apparent scene at his apartment, there does not appear to be much of a mystery. Toxicology will be able to determine which drug he was taking at the time of his death, and what other substances may have been in his system at that time.
Tragically Hoffman was way too young to die, at only 46 years old. He may not have been quite a household name, but his face was easily recognizable by many. His roles as a supporting actor in movies had earned him many Academy Award Nominations, but his role as the lead actor in Capote had earned him his very own Academy Award for best actor. Hopefully this young star went on before the devil knew he was dead.
