3 quick questions . . .
with Alastair Greene
Guitarist, singer-songwriter and California native Alastair Greene has been rocking the Southern California music scene for over two decades. Currently the lead guitarist for the Alan Parsons Project, Greene has played different genres of music on numerous albums over the years.
Here are the 3 quick questions asked of Greene:
1. Describe your first paid gig and when you decided that music was going to be your career choice.
Greene: I don’t remember my actual first paid gig, but I remember the first time I played a 3 hour gig with a blues band and got $50 or whatever it was. I’d been doing 45 minute sets with original bands up until that point and taking whatever money we made and putting it back into the band. My first blues gig was a lot of fun and I remember being really happy about getting to play so much guitar in one night!
2. How has being lead guitarist for the Alan Parsons Project influenced you and your career?
Greene: It’s been pretty amazing to say the least. I’ve gotten to see a lot of the world these last 4 years as a result of playing guitar. It’s introduced me to some great people and and played a lot of amazing shows. It’s definitely been very cool as far as raising my profile as a guitarist. As far as being influenced goes, I would say musically it’s opened my eyes to some cool guitar approaches. I’m a much different player than the guy on all the early records (Ian Bairnson) so it’s been a great challenge to learn his parts. It’s influenced my career as it’s made me take a closer look at the business end of things and given me insight to some of the inner workings of the music industry.
3. What’s next for you?
Greene: My band is always playing locally and regionally and we are putting out a new CD in June of this year so we’re going to be doing a lot of shows to promote that. I’ve also got some shows with Alan coming up in the U.S.in February and then we go on to South America in March.
