A vehicle went barreling down a California freeway on Sunday headed the wrong direction. As oncoming drivers panicked to get out of the way, some were less fortunate. A deadly and gruesome wreck took place which claimed the lives of 6 innocent people. The driver being charged with driving the wrong way is 21-year old Olivia Carolee Culbreath. Police say that despite barely surviving the wreckage herself, she was heavily intoxicated at the time and fully responsible for the fatal accident.
21 Year Old Olivia Culbreath Arrested For Fatal Wrong Way Wreck
Olivia Carolee Culbreath had a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit at the time she was tested after the accident. She was rescued from the scene with a broken femur and a ruptured bladder, but will manage to survive. Her victims, 6 in total, were not as fortunate. She is being charged with manslaughter and a felony DUI. Police suspect that her impairment at the time of the incident is what caused her to lose her judgement and head full-speed into oncoming freeway traffic.
Early Sunday around 4:40 in the morning when it was still dark outside, Culbreath turned East onto the Westbound lanes of the 60 freeway. Her Camaro struck a Ford Explorer head-on, and that Ford Explorer was then hit be a Ford Freestyle. The Camaro and Explorer were nearly unrecognizable from the tangles mess of red metal and random car parts that laid strewn across the lanes of traffic. The entire front of the Ford Explorer was so badly smashed in that the front seats were nearly touching the dashboard. Those inside died, though Culbreath managed to survive.
What started off as a Girl’s Night Out turned into a tragic nightmare for some California families. As a young girl lies recovering physically from her self-inflicted injuries, she most likely will live the rest of her life in regret of decisions she made after a night of heavy drinking.
