3 quick questions . . .
with Anni Piper
Anni Piper is an Australian entertainer currently on tour. She is a singer-songwriter and bass player who performs both alone and with others such as Nichole Hart.
Here are the 3 quick questions asked of Piper:
1. Describe your first paid gig and when you decided that music was going to be your career choice.
Piper: I had known since I started playing bass guitar at fourteen years old that music was the only career for me. Hearing Paul Butterfield Blues Band playing ‘Born in Chicago’ was a defining moment. I studied Contemporary music at university and did my first paid gig at 18 years old with a band called the ‘Astral Groove Doctors’. We played original funk / world music. Rehearsals were at the guitarist’s bio-dynamic avocado farm near the famous surf beaches of Byron Bay, Australia
2. If you could resurrect any other performer to work with whom would you bring back from the dead and why?
Piper: Number one on my list would be to get some lessons from James Jamerson, legendary bassist on just about every Motown hit. Many tried to copy his unique creative approach and I would love just a few hours with the man himself. If I could raise up John Bonham on drums for my band that would be pretty sweet. I’ve always been a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, and I also love his son Jason’s work with Black Country Communion.
3. What’s next for you?
Piper: Heading into freak weather fronts in America’s frozen north. If I make it out of the snowdrifts in one piece, I fly home in March. There’s a ‘Blues and BBQ’ festival booked in Australia plus I’ll be writing songs and getting some much needed R & R. The rest of 2014 is looking bright with some European touring in the cards and possibly a new album.
So there you have it, ladies and gents, 3 quick answers from performer Anni Piper. Hopefully, you found these 3 quick questions entertaining and interesting.
