Batman fans have been aching to see Bruce Wayne hit the screen again since Christopher Nolan concluded his Dark Knight Trilogy back in 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises. Though, Fans won’t have to wait as long as they might think to get their next look at The Bat on screen as Warner Bros. has confirmed a new Batman movie.
Warner Bros. has announced plans to adapt the incredibly popular Batman: Arkham game series into an animated feature. The animated feature, which is titled Batman: Assault on Arkham, will be part of DC’s new animated cinematic universe and is to be directed by Jay Olivia, who recently worked on The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2. Though it won’t be Christian Bale or even Ben Affleck dawning the cape, Warner Bros. Animation has a good reputation among fans with their animated features and should be able to keep that going given the source material for the project.
Fans were more than a little excited when it was announced at last years San Diego Comic Con that Warner Bros. would be including Batman in the Man of Steel sequel, tentatively titled Batman vs Superman. Fans were also quickly disappointed to find out that the released date had to be pushed back until 2016 due to production delays. This new animated feature should hopefully help to appease Batman fans in the meantime.
Few details are known about the project at the moment. No voice actors have been confirmed leaving some to wonder if Mark Hamill will be reprising his acclaimed voice work for The Joker. It is also unlikely that Kevin Conroy, who voiced Wayne in Batman: The Animated Series, will be returning to voice the character.
Batman: Assault on Arkham is due out later this year.
