VH1 is getting “Naked . . .
Dating”, that is.
Sources at The Hollywood Reporter report that the music-based VH1 cable network is getting naked and getting ready for romance. This series, tentatively titled Naked Dating, is an episodic dating series brought to you by Lighthearted Entertainment, the indie production company behind such other unscripted offerings as Extreme Makeover, The Moment of Truth and Are You the One?
LE president Howard Schultz told THR: “VH1 immediately understood our vision and is a fantastic partner on a show that uses a social experiment to provide a fun and entertaining look into how men and women interact when they bare all.”
Each of the ten hour-long episodes so far ordered will focus on a man and a woman who are dating two different and naked suitors. As each episode closes, the pair of contestants will consider their naked dates and decide if they wish to go on a second date. It’s essentially Chuck Woolery’s “Love Connection” MINUS all the clothing.
The show’s producers have yet to provide many details other than the show will be filmed in what they call a “remote exotic locale” and that they have not made any final decisions regarding the program’s host. Don’t get too excited though because VH1 has already made it clear they will edit Naked Dating “according to network standards”. (Think any hot, sexy HBO series later broadcast on the A&E network.)
Mind you, the powers that be at VH1 wish to make it clear that this not just a show about naked dating. Susan Levison, vice-president of original programming, states that while Naked Dating “seems like a show that’s all about a noisy, provocative hook” it’s really “a series with heart and masterful storytelling. . .”
On the other hand, early critics of the yet to be seen show point out that Naked Dating could very well be little more than just one more show in what is becoming a long line of other, recent nudity-themed reality TV programs such as Buying Naked, Naked and Afraid, Naked Castaway and Naked Vegas. Optimists will no doubt soon be hoping for that “masterful storytelling” since there’s already a plethora of other activities filmed naked one can watch.
