One Orem, Utah mom is taking extreme action against clothing store PacSun and she isn’t afraid to take any measure possible to accomplish her task at hand. Utah mom Jody Cox came across a display of T-shirts she deemed inappropriate at PacSun which prompted her to complain to the store manager about this. When she was told that taking down the proactive shirts was not an option unless they had approval from the corporate office, she took matters into her own hands. She took out her money and paid for every last offensive shirt.
The 19 t-shirts set her back a cool $567, although she says she plans to return them later, right before the 60 day return period is up, The Associated Press reported. Most cities would hardly give an offensive shirt a second glance seeing as most are very accustomed to seeing these at just about every store these days, however ultra-conservative Orem is different. Orem has a reputation, known as “Family City USA,” where most residents belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which preaches modesty in its youth.
“These shirts clearly cross a boundary that is continually being pushed on our children in images on the Internet, television and when our families shop in the mall,” Cox said. And her tirade does not stop there. She plans to meet with Orem’s city attorney to discuss whether the proactive shirts violate city code.
City code bans the public display of explicit sexual material, which they define as “any material that appeals to a prurient interest in sex and depicts nudity, actual or simulated sexual conduct, sexual excitement, or sadomasochistic abuse.”
PacSun CEO Gary Schoenfeld simply stating “”While customer feedback is important to us, we remain committed to the selection of brands and apparel available in our stores.”
