Thursday night on NFL Access Warren Sapp and Gerald McCoy unveiled the New Tampa Bay Buccaneers Logo and Helmet for all the world to see and enjoy.
It was a good move by the franchise to have one of its most recognizable former stars and the face of the future do the reveal together since that is what the new helmet and logo can be described as. The team did not make any sweeping changes, but instead took what they had already and spiced it up a bit.
The skull looks more menacing than it once was and the flag appears to be cleaned up a little as well.
The team had spread the word of the change a few days earlier and managed to keep it a secret until the moment of the reveal–not an easy task in this day and age!
While not drastically different from the last logo it is still technically the third logo in team history. When the team began playing in 1976 it featured a picture of a swashbuckler for its logo and the team colors were a shade of orange and white. Bucco Bruce–as it was called–was retired in 1997 and gave way to the pirate flag as well as new team colors (red and pewter).
It appears that a new logo and helmet is not going to be the only change. According to JustisMosqueda of Optimum Scouting new uniforms are going to be revealed on March 5–and there could be a new color![H/T B/R]
