Mexico’s Most Dangerous Drug Lord “El Chapo” Captured

Mexican officials have reported that they have finally captured their most wanted Drug Lord, Joaquin Guzman Loera, aka “El Chapo.” The leader of the Sinaloa Cartel has been on the run for some time, trying to stay out of the eye of the Mexican government. As Mexico waged it’s bloody war against the dangerous drug cartels, it always sought to bring “El Chapo” to justice.

El ChapoJoaquin Guzman Loera, also known as “EL Chapo” or “El Chapo Guzman” was a powerful and wealthy drug cartel leader. His personal wealth is estimated to be in the billions, possibly making him one of the richest men in the world. His wealth and power made it very difficult for authorities to find out his whereabouts, as he could either buy someone’s loyalty to protect himself, or use his power to intimidate them into not turning him in.

“El Chapo” was apprehended this morning in the city of Mazatlan, and then Mexican authorities are preparing him for his long and potentially dangerous journey to Mexico City. Authorities are weary that there may be some attempts to free Guzman on his way to Mexico City, where he will stand trial for his crimes. In addition to smuggling drugs across many international borders, the Sinaloa Cartel, under the direction of Guzman, was responsible for many of the murders and deaths that have taken place in the past decade.

He may have made the majority of his money from the illegal exportation of Marijuana and Cocaine in the US and Europe, but “El Chapo” earned his respect out of other methods. Stories about his power and ruthlessness made many fear crossing paths with this dangerous man. Having been on the run from authorities for approximately 13 years without capture, he became a sort of mythical figure who some assumed would never be caught. This story started coming to an end over the past few days as Mexican Law Enforcement started to raid the homes of many of El Chapo’s close friends and business partners. Presumably someone ultimately spoke up about where he could be found, leading officials right to his hideout during the night.
