Jonathan Yarnell’s story starts on Saturday, October 12, 2013 when Cyndy Carstens received a frantic call from her daughter-in-law telling her that her son Jonathan Yarnell, was having emergency spinal surgery. A vertebra in his back had collapsed.

Jonathan Yarnell, is the thirty-three year old, lives in Temecula, California with his wife Rachael and 10-month old son Elliot.

He was in immense and overwhelming pain until he became paralyzed from the waist down. Surgery was an option but the surgeon gave Jonathan Yarnell only a 10% chance to ever walk again.

During this surgery, the doctors discovered cancer within Jonathan Yarnell’s body. It had been the cause of the vertebra collapse. It would take another 6 agonizing days before the family would know the final diagnosis of multiple myeloma. The cancer was too wide-spread to allow for radiation. The cancer had already invaded all of his spine, neck, pelvis, ribs & sternum. Even with a diagnosis, the doctors would not start chemo until Jonathan Yarnell was out of the hospital. He would need to heal from the surgery, be fitted for a body brace, and work with a physical therapist.

3 weeks later Jonathan was moved to an intensive physical therapy medical center. Although, he would spend another 5 weeks there, he was transported by ambulance to the cancer clinic for treatments twice a week.

(only limitations: no bending, twisting, stooping, lifting, holding or carrying his baby boy)

Jonathan has undergone 7 rounds of chemo to no avail. This past Saturday, February 15th, 2014.  Jonathan started a different drug regimen including and IV drip twice a week. This chemo therapy treatment is necessary to bring his blood numbers to a proper level that will help the bone marrow transplant take hold. It may take another 5 rounds with the new meds to reach the doctors’ goals.
Just one capsule Jonathan takes everyday for 3 weeks is $550.00 per pill (Insurance covers most of it, but not all).
If this option does not work, there are still additional options. Some of these may include moving Jonathan Yarnell & his family to the University of Arkansas Myeloma Institute for Reseach & Therapy in Little Rock, AR. (outside his insurance coverage)

Before all of this Jonathan Yarnell grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended North Canyon High School , he was the quarterback and captain of the football team. He was also a member of the North Canyon Cross-Country Running Team. Then Jonathan Yarnell earned Academic & Running Scholarships attending Phoenix College.

One of the most important thing is our communities and the people within them. Together we can change a life, by saving one we save others. It is not about the money or materials, it is about the love and energy being sent throughout the World.
