Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be hitting theaters shortly, and there has already been a lot of positive buzz for Marvel’s next big film, but recent news has left fans wondering if and when there will be a Captain America 3.
In a recent interview with Glamour, star Chris Evans revealed that he is intending to take a break from acting once his contract with Marvel is over.
“I think when I’m done with this Marvel contract, I’ll take a little break from acting. With acting, you’re one piece in a very big puzzle. It’s like you helped buy a gift but you don’t know what the gift is, so you come back and see the movie. Sometimes it’s nice, sometimes it’s tragic,” Evans said.
Marvel reportedly locked Evans in for a six movie deal. of which, he has fulfilled 4, given his short appearance in Thor: The Dark World along with his roles in Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers.
Evans is also scheduled to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron, leaving only one film on his contract. Granted, there is a good chance that Marvel will make sure that they finish out the Captain America Trilogy, however, there were some loose rumors that Marvel was planning on replacing Evans. If that were true, it is entirely possible that he could just make another cameo appearance and wrap up his contract.
There was little to no evidence to those rumors though, but that is no guarantee that there will be a Captain America 3, or that it will happen anytime in the near future. Another option is that Marvel could grant Evans his break and have Captain America 3 take place later on, perhaps late in phase 3 or even in phase 4. This is largely speculative, but one this is for sure, Evans wants a break and only has one film unaccounted for on his contract. The big question is, will it be Captain America 3?
