Early Sunday morning a off duty police officer and two other men, were gunned down in the Last Call Bar in Fremont, OH.
Elmore Police Officer Jose Andy Chavez, 26; bartender Ramiro Sanchez, 28; and customer Daniel Ramirez, 25, were gunned down in the nightclub shooting.
Detectives working the case are still looking for the unidentified shooter. Police Chief Tim Wiersma believes that gunman was a patron at the bar having a few drinks, when things went horribly wrong. The police suspect that a fight broke out amongst the bar patrons, which led to shooting.
“It is sad that an altercation in a bar went so terribly out of control. I am sad for all of the victims and their tragic deaths,” Wiersma said. “All of the victims were from our community, and, yes, one being a fellow police officer makes it even harder.”
Young officer Chavez leaves behind a wife and two small children. His superior officer Sgt. Jeffrey Harrison said in a statement, that Chavez was an outstanding officer who had served on the force for two years.
Police Chief Wiersma urged any members of the public to come forward with information regarding the shooting. He said, “We are actively investigating leads from people who were at the scene upon our arrival and need witnesses to come forward with information.”
25-year-old Ramiro Arreola, a fourth victim in the shooting was flown to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Detectives are hopeful that when Arreola wakes up he will be able to shed some light on the case and identify the shooter. Police are still searching for the shooter and no arrests have been made.
