Jonathan Martin Traded: It’s been widely expected that the former Dolphins tackle was done playing, but it appears that he is going to get another chance.
As shocking as the controversy in Miami was involving Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito what could be the most shocking is that Martin’s career may not be done just yet. Martin has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a conditional draft pick. With the trade Martin gets to be reunited with a coach that is quite familiar with him–his former college head coach, Jim Harbaugh.
It’s been widely speculated that Martin’s career was over; that no team would want him out of fear that someone could say the wrong thing to him again and spark another controversy. The fear and uncertainty over how he could take things could have some guys walking on egg shells around him making it hard for chemistry to develop.
Martin responded to the news with a tweet that was short and sweet:
Opportunities are few in the NFL… Can’t wait to get to work #9erEmpire

As crazy as it might seem for the 49ers to trade for Martin they are only giving up a conditional pick. What that means is that the compensation the Dolphins will get is going to be dependent on certain things happening, i.e. making the team, starting, playing a certain number of snaps. etc.
What those things are what pick the 49ers are giving up has not been made public at this time.
