Shaq Assault Called Horseplay by Lawyer

Who did Shaq Assault? NBA Hall of Famer and current TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal has been accused of assault and is currently involved in an open investigation by Atlanta police after a TNT co-worker faced serious injuries after what was said to be a “horseplay” incident that occurred on May 9, 2013 and was later reported to police on July 2.

As explained by Robert Williams, O’Neal’s co-worker at Turner Studios, O’Neal “ran out of a room and hit me with a tackle punch to the back knocking me down and falling on top of me injuring my neck and back.”

Dennis Roach, O’Neal’s attorney, sent the local ABC affiliate a statement of which referred to the incident as, “nothing more than horseplay.”

However, Williams’ attorney, claims that his client’s injury was not result of horseplay.

“We understand that the physical attack by Shaquille O’Neal upon Mr. Robert Williams is under criminal investigation,” Williams’ attorney said in a statement to WSB. “Mr. Williams is presently recovering after surgery.

“However, he does state, emphatically, that the permanent injuries he received were not the result of participation in any form of ‘horseplay.’ ”

No charges have been filed by local police over the event as the investigation has not yet concluded. Atlanta police Sgt. Greg Lyon reportedly told local Atlanta television station WSB TV that whether or not charges will be filed as well as reviewed by the district attorney’s office shall be determined by the end  results of the current investigation.

O’Neal, 42, retired from his 19 year professional basketball career in 2011 and began working as a lead studio analyst for TNT’s NBA coverage in Atlanta, Georgia.
