Former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld says a trained ape could do better than Barack Obama when it comes to the matter of Afghanistan. Rumsfeld let it be known that he disapproves of President Obama’s attempts of securing a status of forces agreement with Afghanistan.
During a Fox News segment with Greta Van Susteren, Rumsfeld was heard saying:
“A trained ape could get a status of forces agreement. It does not take a genius. And we have so mismanaged that relationship. United States diplomacy has been so bad — so embarrassingly bad — that I’m not the least bit surprised that he (Obama) felt cornered and is feeling he has to defend himself in some way or he’s not president of that country.
The brash remark brings to light Obama’s approach when it comes to handling foreign affairs. According to Rumsfeld, the U.S. has over 100 status of forces agreements with other countries that would allow the U.S. to station military forces in the region. Rumsfeld went on to state that Obama has hindered the U.S. and Afghanistan relationship as he stated that it has gone “downhill like a toboggan,” since Obama took the presidency.
Despite critics, the White House maintains that the president seeks diplomacy with countries surrounding the Middle East and Asia and has made great progress with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The polls seem to reflect Obama’s dismal impact on foreign affairs as he is at a 41 percent approval rating with 54 percent disapproving of the job he is doing in office.
