In recent years, Boeing has actually cut jobs from their Long Beach and Seal Beach locations in California.  1800 commercial engineers currently reside in these locations and they are about to be joined by more.  Last year, Boeing had said it would move 675 jobs from Puget Sound in Washington to the Southern California region, but now it is planning to move about 1000.

Last May, Boeing announced that a new engineering design center for commercial aircraft was being created and that engineering support for out-of-production airplanes would be based at the center.  This center, is going to be in Southern California.  The site will be dedicated to superior customer service and allow the company to have all of their resources at one location.

Including all employees, Boeing currently has about 18.640 employees in Southern California.  This is second only to their Seattle location, which is where the company was founded.  At one time, 35,000 were employed in Southern California, making it the largest private employer in the area.  With the new site and the relocation of employees, it is hopeful that the Southern California location will have a larger presence in the area.
