49ers Linebacker Aldon Smith Arrested for Shouting ‘Bomb’ in Airport

There are certain things that you should never do in airport. Sunday 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was reminded the hard way what one of those things is.

You don’t ever claim to have a bomb, threaten to have a bomb, insinuate that you or someone else has a bomb–you just don’t mention the word bomb.

But Smith did and was arrested for it.

According to TMZ Sports (who broke the story) the incident occurred at LAX in Los Angeles. Smith was going through the security check point when he was randomly chosen to be screened further by TSA authorities. He didn’t take to added delay and made sure anyone within ear shot knew it.

Somewhere in the process he made it sound as if he had a bomb and was subsequently arrested.

Los Angeles airport police released the following statement:

“At approximately 1400 hrs, a 24 year-old Aldon Jacarus Ramon Smith, a resident of San Jose, California, was going through Terminal 1 screening where he made a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb. Los Angeles Airport Police made contact with him in the gate area where he became uncooperative. After conducting their investigation, LA Airport Police took suspect into custody and transported him to LAPD-Pacific division where he was booked for California Penal Code 148.1(a) – False report of a bomb threat. “

Smith could not have picked a worse time to get arrested. He already has a track record of off-field issues. In January 2012 he was arrested for drunk driving in Miami. Six months later police had to break up a party he was having at his house; a party that he was stabbed at. He would later be charged with felony weapons possession because of weapons he had at his house.

Last season he missed five weeks after checking himself in to rehab following another DUI charge.

Character is starting to mean more and more to NFL teams. Aaron Hernandez has teams concerned enough about it that DeSean Jackson was cut because the Eagles were concerned over what he might do (among other things). With the organization already facing a situation with Colin Kaepernick the last thing it wants is another incident from Smith.
