The blood moon is more formally known as a lunar eclipse.  A lunar eclipse can only occur when there is a full moon.  It can easily be seen when it is happening, anyone on the night side of the earth.  A lunar eclipse occurs when earth’s shadow blocks the light of the sun which would usually reflects off of the moon.

There will be three more opportunities to see this awesome view within the next two years.  This morning’s events were only the first in a series of blood red moons we will be seeing.  The event will happen again in approximately six month intervals over the next two years.  The three remaining events will occur on October 8, 2014, April 4 2015 and a yet a September 28, 2015.
