Federal taxes are due April 15th and some states also have taxes due on the same day.  If taxes are not paid by tax day, there is a penalty of 2% of tax owed to 10%.

Taxes can be filed on ones own, through a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or a licensed agency.  Tax documents are typically sent out by January 31st from employers.  It is important to contact any employers that have not sent tax documents.

Since tax day is today, most help you could get with filing your taxes is probably booked or very busy.  If you still have not filed taxes, you may need to do them yourself to meet the deadline.  Companies such as H & R Block and TurboTax offer an array of ways and price ranges for using their services online to file taxes.

But if you owe taxes, be careful- your payment to the IRS will need to be postmarked by today as well.  They can be paid online through a third party vendor, but the easiest way is to send a check or money order.  The post office will most likely be busy, so be sure to get there in plenty of time before they close!
