Crossfit is the hot new workout that seems to get people the body and strength they have been looking for, but what exactly does it entail? Could it be the workout for the new you?
What Is Crossfit?
Crossfit is an exercise program that encompasses many different strength and conditioning exercises. It uses cardio, weight lifting, gymnastics, and core training to put the body in the best possible physical condition.
The crossfit workout greatly varies from workout to workout and does not have to work for a specified amount of time. The whole idea is that as much is packed into the workout as possible. The workouts tend to be done in classes but can be done on one’s own. A crossfit gym is typically called called a box and looks like a warehouse or a garage. There is a WOD or workout of the day and it changes each day so the crossfitters are not performing the same exercises from day to day. Athletes do AMRAPS, or as many reps as possible, in a given time frame. Though it is typically individual, many thrive on out performing others or setting personal records with each workout.
The culture however, is one of encouragement and support. Crossfit has become a lifestyle for many that also includes clean eating habits to optimize the body for performance.
