The 5 Most Shocking Celebrity Murders
John Lennon and his music touched the world. John Lennon’s legacy in a life, which was cut short in December of 1980, was as one of the most liked members of the most successful ‘popular music’ groups of all time, the Beatles.
More than a decade after his highly publicized split with the Beatles, John wrestled with the notion of returning to music, while also playing the part of family man and father. During this time he helped other noted stars such as David Bowe and Elton John achieve success with backing vocals and other creative help. John retired from music only to another high anticipated return in October of 1980.
On December 8th of 1980 at 10:50 PM, while outside of his New York residence, John was shot four times in the back by Mark David Chapman, a man who John had signed an autographed copy of his album Double Fantasy for early that day. Lennon was 40 at the time of his death.
