Wilkerson made headlines when the young woman drove her minivan into the Atlantic Ocean with her children inside. The Daytona Beach native was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder. With her lawyer arguing an insanity defense, Wilkerson is hoping that the judge will lessen her bond. If a judge does grant this request, it may add legitimacy to Wilkerson’s lawyer’s argument of insanity.

According to the prosecuting attorney, Wilkerson’s attempted murder was planned back in March when she drove her van into the rough surf. The family of Ebony Wilkerson told authorities how the mother wanted to kill herself and the children because she was abused by her husband.

Meanwhile, Wilkerson had a child while in custody. No specifics were given about the child from Wilkerson’s husband, Ronjon, who declined to state the date of birth, the gender of the child, or who is caring for the child.

The three children with Wilkerson at the time she drove the van into the ocean were rescued by bystanders who saw the incident take place. No public comments from the Wilkerson family have been given at this time in regards to the case or the incident. The family asks that the public respect the privacy of the children during their time of grief.
