GWAR frontman David Brockie died from an accidental heroin overdose according to the Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office. The 50-year-old singer, who passed away back in March, was killed after overdosing on the lethal drug in his home.
Brockie was found dead by his roommate on March 23 in his Richmond home. The Grammy award nominated alien band made headlines after the lead singer’s death.
According to Arkuie Williams, administrator of the medical examiner’s office, the exact cause of death was declared as “acute heroin toxicity and the manner of death is accident.” After the cause of death was declared, the band members as well as band manager Jack Flanagan could not be reached for comment.
Reuters reports that heroin deaths in the United States have been on the rise due to the fact that painkiller users choose heroin because it is more affordable. The rise in deaths by drug overdose has risen to almost 50 percent from 2006.
David Brockie and his band mates in GWAR had a mass following of over all over the world. The band was started in the 1980’s by Brockie and was self-described as “Earth’s only openly extra-terrestrial rock band.”
It is unclear at this time if the band will continue on without their frontman. No information about future shows or development for the band have been released.
