Rapper JayAre, a member of Inglewood, Calif. rap group Cali Swag District, passed away on Friday at 25-years-old.
JayAre, born as Cahron Childs, suffered from sickle cell anemia and was admitted to the hospital on Thursday night, according to a source who spoke to MTV News. While he was there, he fell into cardiac arrest and died.
On Friday, Cali Swag member Corey “Smoove Da General”Fowler took to his Twitter account to talk about the tragic passing of is friend and bandmate writing ““Rest in peace Jayare I’m gonna miss u forever ..I will never get over this..but I know God got u..and I know You got me.” He also confirmed the tragic news writing, “Sickle cell took my brother away from me today…with that being said I’m proud to know with that disease he made the best of life.”
Cali Swag District became a household name in 2010 with their first single, “Teach Me How to Dougie,” which not only made it’s way onto Billboard’s rap singles charts at No. 6, but also spawned perhaps the greatest dance phenomenon since Soulja Boy’s “Crank Dat” back in 2007. The dance craze even reached First Lady Michelle Obama, who showed off her moves on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
Childs is not the first member of Cali Swag District to pass away in recent years. The group’s M-Bone (real name: Montae Talbert) was murdered in a drive-by shooting in 2011. M-Bone was just 22-years-old when he died. The three remaining members released their first album The Kickback two months after M-bone’s passing.
Earlier this year Cali Swag District released a mixtape, entitled “The District” featuring Waka Flocka, Skeme, Nipsey Hussle, Problem, Ty Dolla $ign, and others.
