Without even looking at any lists or statistics, if you were to ask anyone what they thought the best colleges in the United States are, odds are one of the if not the first name that they would say would be Harvard. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts just outside of Boston, Harvard is the single oldest university in the country. Founded back in 1636, the university has a history that spans nearly four centuries.
That long history has paid off well for Harvard, which has the highest endowment of any institution in the country and is one of the most well regarded universities in the world. 62 living billionaires and 335 Rhodes Scholars once called Harvard home, which is the most of any university in the United States as well.
Though Harvard is very expensive, $42,292 for the 2013-14 school year, their massive endowment allows them to provide a lot of financial aid to their 21 thousand students. Harvard has campuses located throughout Boston, including the main campus which is more than 200 acres of Ivy League envy. It’s a safe bet that any A student with high aspirations in life has dreamed of attending Harvard University at some point.
