World Cup Final: Germany Beats Argentina 1-0 in Extra Time

World Cup Final: When it came to predicting who the hero of the World Cup Finals there were quality candidates from each of the two teams starting line-ups.

When all was said and done it ended up being one of the substitutes.

Germany’s Mario Gotze had come in towards the end of regulation for Miroslav Klose. Having fresh legs that late in the game and going in to overtime is certainly not a bad thing and paid of for Germany when the game was looking like it might go to a shootout.

With  minutes left he chested a cross from Andre Schuerrle and finished the play off with a beautiful kick sending the ball in to the back of the net.

”It’s an unbelievable feeling. I don’t know how to describe it. You just shoot that goal in, you don’t really know what’s happening,” Goetze said. ”And then at the end of the match, having a party with the team, the whole country … it is for us, a dream come true.”

The goal came in the 113th minute of the game, but Argentina was unable to tie the game up giving Germany the 1-0 victory and the right to be called World Cup champions.

“It’s incredible. The team did it beautifully,” said German goal keeper Manuel Neuer. “At some point we’ll stop celebrating but we’ll still wake up with a smile.”

It is the first World Cup championship trophy for Germany, fourth overall, and first since West and East Germany unified.
