The popular tourist destination, Yellowstone National Park has been topped as the one million mark for visitation in the first six months of 2014. The park has seen a steady increase in visitation since the park began keeping recreational visitation records according to Yellowstone National Park spokesman Al Nash.
The Yellowstone National Park had already recorded a total of 1,084,827 visitors by the end of June within which 666,642 coming solely in the month of June. The park’s peak visitation month is typically june every year, followed in order by August, June, September and May.
The Yellowstone National Park recorded 1,016,651 visitors through the end of June for 2013 which is slightly less than the figures of the subsequent year. The park has seen more than three million visitors annually since 2007 after first breaking three millions visitors back in 1992.
“In the long term you’ll see we’ve had a steady increase in visitation,” Nash said. “Consistently, the West Entrance sees more visitors pass through.”
“We certainly encourage visitors to consider visiting the most popular areas of the park outside the middle of the day,” he added. “If you plan your visit outside that timeframe, you certainly may have a more relaxed visit.”
More vehicles travelling the park’s roadways also considered as peak season. The spokesman of the Yellowstone National Park, Nash encourages drivers to use pullout when they want to see something, rather than parking in the road or looking away from the road while driving to see something thereby minimizing traffic jams and accidents.
“Don’t stop in the middle of the road and don’t rush through Yellowstone, it’s not possible,” he said. “You’re on vacation. I hear of people trying to ‘make time’ while traveling; that’s not feasible in July. If you travel in the middle of the day, you’ll likely run into congestion.”
So, remember to visit popular areas early or late in the day, take a hite to get away from the busy roads, and follow the rules of the road while travelling the enjoying through the Yellowstone National Park this summer.
