Why Is Ozzy Osbourne ‘Forever In Debt’ To Robin Williams? — ‘The Why’

Welcome to the newest edition of The Why.  “Why is Ozzy Osbourne ‘forever in debt’ to Robin Williams?” you ask? Good question . . . and timely too!  No doubt the questioner already knows most of the answer but we’ll gladly play along with the Robin Williams thing.  (It sure beats having to answer the question: Why do girls get Brazilian Waxes and what are they anyway?”)

The death of actor and comedian Robin Williams is all over the news as this is written. Among the earliest group of celebs to comment were rock star and reality show subject Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon. Osbourne, as at least one of you already knew, told Dave Basner from the VH1 Network that he is “forever in debt to Robin Williams.”

Why did Osbourne say that? What did Williams do to earn Osbourne’s admiration? According to various sources including Ultimate Classic Rock, it has to do with Sharon Osbourne’s cancer diagnosis back in 2002.

The ex-Black Sabbath frontman told Basner: “When Sharon was diagnosed with colon cancer, I’d seen the film ‘Patch Adams’ and . . . he was working with terminal people, and I thought, ‘what a great thing to do and he’s a very funny man, Robin Williams.’ I got my agent to contact him and ask if he’d be so kind as to come around and talk to my wife, which he did. It was very nice of him.”

Sharon Osbourne shared details of the visit with the National Enquirer. She recalled: “I was in bed when he came by, half asleep and a little woozy from some of the medication the doctors had given me to take. Suddenly, there’s a knock on my bedroom door and I say, ‘Come in.’ And there’s Robin Williams standing in front of me.”

She continued: “Well, I thought I must be dreaming. In fact, I thought I was hallucinating from the drugs I’d been given! I couldn’t think of what to say, so I said, ‘Does Ozzy know you’re here?’ Then, Robin got in bed with me and said, ‘Shhh! No, he doesn’t and don’t tell him!’ Well, that just cracked me up. I was in bed with Robin Williams. I started laughing hysterically. For the next two hours, he just cuddled me.”

To this day the Osbournes remember that gesture. Sharon Osbourne once told the Enquirer: “He was just the nicest, most giving guy in the world — he did so much for me.” More recently she tweeted something about it: ‘The entire Osbourne Family is grieving the loss of a kind, funny, generous and talented man.”

Touching account, Mr. Phoenix. Mr. Williams will be missed!

    • Will Phoenix

I am honestly surprised I had not heard all this before to tell you the truth but then again I was never a big fan of Ozzy’s once he started doing the reality TV show and Sharon started doing the TV stuff she does.

      • Carmen gonzales

The guy is fuuny. I only watched one show but when he said he couldn’t figure out how to put his T.V. on with so many remote controls, I could relate He was being serious which I thought was hilarious.

        • Will Phoenix

Yes, but do you really need the rock prince of darkness to be shown on TV as a senile old man?

          • Gerald Harty

Does anyone knows who the prince of darkness is anyway?

          • Will Phoenix

            Yes.

Do you agree that the prince of darkness is satan himself? he is not a medifore

          • Will Phoenix

Sorry I had missed that one. I believe that Christians sometimes us the phrase literally. With Ozzy I am thinking it is more of a metaphor and/or show biz of course.

          • Gerald Harty

Do you believe that the prince of darkness is Satan

          • Will Phoenix

Depends on how the context in which the phrase is used.

Did ozzy really bite the head off a Bat?

    • Will Phoenix

They say he once bit the head off of a real bat which he thought was a fake bat but the older urban legend that he bit heads off of bats was born of some argument in an office somewhere. he bit the head off a dove as I recall. From there you had the whole bat thing and then much later after that I guess it became a gag. Hard to believe stories from the road though since in those days people were not always straight and sober lol It started with the dove story though which ahs been verified by stone cold sober people lol
