Welcome to the newest edition of The Why. “Why do girls dress provocatively?” you ask? Good question. (Besides, it beats answering the question: “Why did my little sister say she got your personal e-mail through the website?”)
Yes, we know. Your question was actually: “Why do girls dress like f**king sluts?” Yours truly simply cleaned it up a bit. After all, while we do at time inject just enough levity to weed out the folks who have no sense of humor whatsoever, we don’t want people to think we don’t take all of these questions seriously in terms of providing an answer.
Speaking of levity, let’s hear from a TV favorite, The Family Guy’s Peter Griffin on the subject:
“You know what really grinds my gears? This Lindsay Lohan. Eh? Lindsay Lohan with all those little outfits jumping around there on stage, half naked with your little outfits. You know? You’re up there jumpin’ around and I’m just sittin’ here with my beer. So, you know, what am I supposed to do? What do you–what do you want? You know, are we gonna go out? Is that what you’re tryin’ to–why you’re leapin’ around there throwin’ those things all up in–um, over there in my face? What do you want, Lindsay? TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT! Well, I’ll tell you what you want…you want nothin’! You want nothin’! All right, because we all that no woman anywhere wants to have sex with anyone. And to titillate us with any thoughts otherwise is-is-is-is just bogus.”
But seriously, sex is not necessarily the answer here. Online experts note that gals dress the way they do because it makes them feel confident when they get attention for the way they dress.
Gals also dress to impress other gals and at times even more than guys. Adolescent girls especially often dress the way they do because they need to fit in even if they don’t like or even feel truly comfortable dressing the way they do. It’s called succumbing to peer pressure.
Women have also been taught by society—(It’s everyone else’s fault these days, don’t ya know?)—that revealing their sexier parts will definitely get men’s attention. Mind you, experts also claim that some teenage girls have no clue “how sexual they are dressing” and they are simply “wearing what they think looks good.” (Ya mean, teenagers don’t know everything!? Yeah, tell this reporter’s kids that.)
Finally, guys are visually wired so regardless of any protestations against being “objectified,” we all have known this for years so chances are gals sometimes still want to be thought of as physically attractive. Regardless of how educated or liberated or how PC, deep down, women want to be sexy.
Why do girls dress provocatively? Now you know.
