Cyle Warren Abbott Jr. was up early to rob a local gas station just after 6:00am Sunday morning. He approached the clerk with a handgun, and demanded money. The clerk handed over a small sum of money, and Abbott fled with the cash and a few beers. When Eureka Police arrived on the scene minutes later, Abbott was already long gone. With few clues, police had yet to identify a suspect in the case.
Remorseful Robber Brings Money Back 3 Hours Later
A few hours and a few beers later, Cyle Warren Abbott Jr returned to the same gas station. Clerks were dumbfounded when he walked right back into the gas station again and returned the money that he had just stolen 3 hours before. The 23-year old robber had apparently begun to feel remorseful about his actions and wanted to do his best to make the situation right. He returned most of the cash that was taken earlier, and notified the clerks on duty that he was turning himself in. As he waited nervously in the gas station’s bathroom, police rushed to the scene to apprehend him.
Abbott informed police that he was planning to use the money he stole to help him leave the area so that he could start his life fresh somewhere else. It is not clear if the money was not substantial enough, or if he simply decided that robbing someone at gunpoint is not exactly the best way to make a fresh start. With his conscience a little cleaner, Abbott was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. With his bond set at $50,000 he now faces charges for the robbery and a probation violation.
