Twelve ”Gigantic Circles” have been rediscovered and photographed in Jordan, baffling archaeologists as to the purpose of these enormous stone rings found scattered across west central Jordan. First found in 1920, recent surveys and aerial pictures have revealed more about these mysterious circular patterns.

“Archaeologists in Jordan have taken high-resolution aerial images of 11 ancient ‘Big Circles,’ all but one of which are around 1,312 feet in diameter. Why they are so similar is unknown but the similarity seems too close to be a coincidence. The Big Circles (as archaeologists call them) were built with low stone walls that are no more than a few feet high. The circles originally contained no openings, and people would have had to hop over the walls in order to get inside.”

Lead researcher Professor David Kennedy, from the University of Western Australia, said: “The landscape of the Middle East is thickly strewn with circular or sub-circular stone-built structures. Most are crude circles, but many are clearly intended to be geometrically precise, although often slightly distorted.”

While the structure of the circles is rather modest , they are simply rock piles no more than a few feet high.  The enormity of the circles and the fact they appear to be geometrically congruent to one another is notable. “In the case of those circles that are near-precise, it would have required at least one person as ‘architect,’” Kennedy said, adding that a center spot marked with a pole and radius rope could have been used to mark the perimeter outline. “That would also explain the glitches (in the circles)where the land was uneven,” Kennedy added.

Archaeologists have yet to accurately date Jordan’s circles, and have found material in the circles that reveal a broad timeframe as to their creation – thought to be anywhere from the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age (approximately 5,000 BCE) up to the Roman and biblical first century periods, up to the 7th century AD.

All but one of the circles is at or within a few feet of what appears to be a standard diameter – 1,312 feet, or 400 meters. The circles all appear on the eastern side of a north to south-running mountain range, southeast of the Salt Sea, in the biblical lands of Moab and Edom.

While some say the circles are likely nothing more than pasture enclosures for animals, others say they have more significant meanings – biblical or even extraterrestrial. Are these enormous circles related to the vision of the twelve tribes and holy contribution as seen by the prophet Ezekiel and recorded in his 47th and 48th chapters? Are they some sort of marking ground for alien crafts?
