The country of Jordan has been participating in the US-led coalition airstrikes against Islamic State targets for months now. After the video was released of the execution of Moaz al-Kasasbeh, the downed Jordanian pilot, King Abdullah took the matter to heart. After trying to show restraint, and negotiating the freedom of their hostage, it appears that ISIS had no intentions of producing any proof that the pilot was still alive. The lack of evidence to support the fact that al-Kasasbeh was alive left the Jordanian government hesitant to release the requested terrorist hostages that they had imprisoned. What made matters worse, was that rather than the normal modis operandi of ISIS, the Jordanian pilot was not beheaded, he was filmed burning alive inside a metal cage for minutes on end.

King Abdullah is getting the country’s military ready to turn the amps up to 11, and start dealing out some brutal justice. Rather than sitting back and almost passively targeting strongholds with bombs and smart munitions, their military now seems motivated and prepared to hit Islamic State targets even harder than before. Jordan is now making plans to carry out attacks against ISIS targets deep inside of their territory. Instead of just attacking outlying areas, and forcing them into retreat, they are now going to be carrying out airstrikes and other attacks against the heart of ISIS command.
Jordan is a predominately Islamic country in the Middle East, and like so many other Islamic countries in the region, they deeply oppose the ideals of ISIS. ISIS is a direct threat to the sovereignty and identity of Jordan and other countries. The threat lies not only in military action, but in the culture of Islamic Extremism that most Jordanians feel should be distanced from the perception of Islam as a whole.
