Spice Abuse Leading To Deaths And Hospitalizations Around The Country

A substance being sold around the country known as spice has been on the rise again lately. What makes matters worse is that the more recent variations seem to be more potent than some of the product sold in the past. The abuse of this substance has led to many more hospitalizations, and even deaths all across the country. The substance may be advertised as a synthetic alternative to marijuana, but its effects are far worse for those who smoke it.

Adverse reactions have caused some users to freak out, and seek medical attention out of fear for their health. Meanwhile some other people have become legitimately ill, resulting in intensive care treatments and even death for some. There is particular concern about the use of these substances, and so far it appears to be warranted.

Smoke shops sell these products as a “spice” rather than flat out calling them a drug. This loophole allows these shady businesses to make money off of these products, when they would otherwise be illegal. The spice substances have not even been approved for human consumption, so there is no telling what the real effect is on one’s body.

People who buy spice are generally looking for a cheap and more legal way to get a marijuana type of high. The ease of being able to buy it down the street at a business makes the substance seem harmless to many. There is not much regulation on the use and sale of these spices. Just like bath salts that were sold under the guise of a harmless product, these spice products are soon the get the ban hammer from the authorities in many states.
